Newtown's Tree Lighting Ceremony 2017: Road Closures, Traffic

Christmas will kick off in Newtown with a tree lighting ceremony. Here is what you need to know about parking.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Town of Newtown's annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at Ram's Pasture will be held on Friday, Dec. 1. Police will close several roads during the ceremony, and closures will be in effect for three house from 5 to 8 p.m.

Here are the following traffic impacts during the ceremony.

  • No motor vehicles will be allowed on Elm Drive between Rte. 302 and Borough Lane
  • No parking on Elm Drive between Rte. 302 and Borough Lane
  • No parking on Hawley Road
  • No parking on Rte. 25 between Borough Lane and Glover Avenue
  • No parking on Rte. 302 between Main Street and Elm Street
  • No parking in the driveway off Rte. 302 that goes behind the Pleasance and leads to the rear lot of the Police Department.

Police will have barricades in place, and officers will be posted to help drivers and pedestrians. Anyone in violation of these closures is subject to tow.
