Safe, New Easter Idea Brings Festive Fun to Newtown Homes

A local mom and entrepreneur has created a fun new way for Newtown families to celebrate Easter and the holidays while still staying safe.

NEWTOWN, CT—A local mom and Newtown High School alum, Wendy Mitchell, has created a new business that's geared towards helping children and families celebrate the holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions while still remaining socially distant—Salutations Custom Greetings.

The idea was born out of Mitchell's idea to bring her fresh, organic vegetable surplus to family and friends in the form of "Veggiegrams." Each bag included fresh-grown vegetables, sweet treats, and a personalized poem. Over the holidays, Mitchell created and delivered hundreds of Advent bags, complete with toys, treats, and riddles for her local church. Each child received one bag for each day during the month of December that had a riddle with a clue that helped the child to guess what was inside the bag.

Mitchell's focus soon turned to making customized cards and gift baskets for her family who she could not visit due to Covid, and packages for her friends and neighbors. These unique pick-me-ups were designed to brighten the day of so many who were isolated at home and needed some cheer. This past month, she spearheaded a highly successful "You've Been SHAMROCKED!" fundraiser at a nonprofit where she volunteers and soon after, she decided to launch her own business.

"For all of the businesses I've owned over the years, we have always donated to local nonprofits in order to give back to the community," Mitchell stated.
