Sandy Hook Fire Substation May See Expansion

The expansion would give volunteers more room to maneuver the big rigs, and make it safer for the personnel to get to emergencies.

The 2,000-square-foot expansion, which would give volunteers more room to maneuver the big rigs, and make it safer for the personnel to get to emergencies, would create two large fire engine bays, a break room, an office, a storage room, and a new driveway onto a side road.

Plans are to build a one-story addition at the back of the existing building at 249 Berkshire Rd. and create a driveway onto Nighthawk Lane. The current driveway onto Berkshire Road would be closed.

The town has budgeted $375,000 in its capital plan for the project and the hope is to get approval in time to build the addition before winter, so that the trucks can be moved to the addition and the existing station can be remodeled.
