Sandy Hook Mom Named People Magazine's One of '25 Women Changing the World'

Sandy Hook mom and activist Nicole Hockley has been named People Magazine's '25 Women Changing the World.' BREAKING

SANDY HOOK, CT — Jennifer Garner, Charlize Theron, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Nicole Hockley— just a handful of the 25 women who People Magazine say are world changers in 2016.

Sandy Hook mom and advocate for common sense gun solutions Nicole Hockley said last month that it's a "punch in the gut" that Congress has done nothing to prevent tragedy since her 6-year-old son Dylan was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, along with 20 students and six educators.

This month her tireless efforts to prevent similar tragedies through Sandy Hook Promise have been recognized by People Magazine, who named her one of "25 Women Changing the World." Hockley is co-founder of Sandy Hook Promise and travels the country to teaches students and adults how to recognize the signs of people who are at risk of hurting themselves or others through gun violence.

"Gun violence is preventable if you know the signs," Hockley told People Magazine.

Sandy Hook Promise, based in Newtown, Connecticut, "promotes a renewed national dialogue around issues of mental health, school safety and gun responsibility that respects the rights that the Second Amendment bestows on individuals."
