Severe Thunderstorm Watch, Flash Flood Warning In Effect for Newtown

BREAKING: Severe thunderstorms are set to hit the area Thursday afternoon.

NEWTOWN, CT — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Newtown and the rest of Fairfield County as of 1:55 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for most of the state.

There is also a flash flood watch in effect from 2 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.

  • Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. West wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 64. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
