Severe Thunderstorm Watch Now in Effect for Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Monday's weather will be anything but pleasant and summery, as the National Weather Service issued two weather watches Monday. In the early morning Monday, the service declared a Flash Flood watch lasting from 12 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday. On Monday Morning, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was declared from 11:15 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Luckily, conditions seem to be drying out Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here's a look at what Newtown residents can expect as a series of storms and heavy rainfall rolls in:

• Monday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. South wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before 1am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1am and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 66. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
• Tuesday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.
