Officers from Newtown and surrounding towns spent Saturday afternoon taking donations for local food pantries in the parking lot outside Big Y in Newtown, filling two police cruisers with donated food. Police said contributions were coming as frequently as every few minutes.
Along the way, officers also raised about $300 in cash, according to Chief Michael Kehoe. Cash was spent inside Big Y toward added donations for cruisers.
