Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain in Newtown’s Forecast

MONROE, CT — Thunderstorms in late November in Connecticut? Apparently, that’s possible and it is in the state’s forecast this week along with heavy rain, which could dump a couple of inches on Connecticut. Monday is the calm before the storm with sunny skies and temps in the mid to upper 40s in the state. And once we turn to early Tuesday afternoon that is when the skies open up with some much-needed rain and likely some thunderstorms too, according to the National Weather Service.

The stormy and unsettled weather does end in time for Thursday now, which currently looks to be beautiful with sunny skies and temps in the upper 50s. WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote, “Sunny today with high temperatures between 47 and 51. Find your umbrella! Heavy rain at times Tuesday into Tuesday evening. Another round of rain expected on Wednesday afternoon. Dry late week and for the coming weekend.”

Timeline of heavy rain in Connecticut:

Tuesday: Rain and thunderstorms begin in Connecticut after 1 p.m. Thunderstorms are likely too and an inch of rain is expected before it ends around 8-9 p.m. in Connecticut. In northern Connecticut the heaviest rain ends around 5 p.m.

Wednesday: More rain and again after 12 p.m. Another inch of rain is expected before it ends before midnight.

The rest of the forecast:

Yesterday, the thinking was that the rain would continue into Thursday but now that has changed. Thursday and Friday are now both forecast to be sunny with temps into the mid 50s on the coast and upper 40s inland.

The weekend also looks dry with sunny skies and temps in the 40s.
