Winter Team State Championship History: Newtown High School
Nighthawk squads have accounted for five state team championships in winters past.
NEWTOWN, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway in Connecticut Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.
To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the five CIAC winter team titles won by Newtown High School in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).
- wrestling (3) - State Open: 2015; Class LL: 2015, 2014
- boys ice hockey (1) - Div. III: 2014
- girls basketball (1) - Class LL: 2012
