2 Injured In 5-Vehicle Crash On Merritt In Norwalk: FD
The crash occurred Tuesday afternoon between exits 40 and 41.
NORWALK, CT — Two people were injured — one seriously — Tuesday afternoon when five vehicles collided on the Merritt Parkway northbound between exits 40 and 41 in Norwalk, according to Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott. No other injuries were reported.
The chain-reaction crash occurred at about 4 p.m. near the East Rocks Road overpass, and resulted in the temporary closure of both northbound lanes for an hour as firefighters extricated two occupants from one of the vehicles.
"The extrication of the male passenger took a couple minutes, and he was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS, with non-life threatening injuries," Prescott said. "The Driver’s extrication was a little more complicated and took around 15 minutes. The female driver was transported by Norwalk Hospital Paramedics with serious injuries."

Details of the crash were not immediately available. The conditions of the two injured people also were not available.
Three tow trucks were needed to remove the smashed vehicles, and they had to travel on the closed parkway in the the wrong direction in order to access them, according to Prescott.
