2 Norwalk Schools Placed On Remote Learning Due To Quarantines
The coronavirus is causing "staffing challenges" at the schools.
NORWALK, CT — Norwalk's Kendall Elementary and Silvermine Dual Language Magnet schools are on remote learning protocols Monday to Nov. 9 due to "staffing challenges" as a result of coronavirus quarantines, according to district officials.
"While this decision is made with the health and well being of all in mind, it also reflects staffing challenges," officials wrote on the district's Facebook page. "With additional confirmed cases identified over the weekend, more teachers, staff, administrators & bus drivers are included in the quarantines."
Norwalk is in the midst of an uptick in coronavirus cases, and as a result, the city has been placed on "red alert" status by the state. Mayor Harry Rilling is currently under quarantine due to exposure to a family member who has tested positive for the virus, according to city officials.

Rilling has tested negative twice since then, but will remain under quarantine this week.
"Most teachers will continue instruction from home, but it means that staffing levels for in-person learning is an issue in several buildings, even with certified Central Office personnel assigned to fill in," school district officials said. "Substitutes have been difficult to find during COVID."
