500 Drivers Cited by Norwalk Police for Cell Phone Use in April

Plenty of drivers got tickets.

Norwalk police handed out 585 infraction tickets or summonses in April as part of a statewide enforcement campaign against distracted driving, police announced.

“Throughout the month, our officers conducted enforcement details throughout the city utilizing spotters and other investigative techniques to locate and cite those drivers who chose to utilize their devices while driving,“ police said in a department news release.

Out of the 585, a total of 500 were for using or holding a cell phone while driving. Another five were for seatbelt violations, and nine were for driving with a suspended license. In two cases, people were cited on drug-related charges, and police found 69 other violations related to motor vehicles at traffic stops.
