NORWALK, CT — A GoFundMe page has been established on behalf of Ty Guarente, an assistant coach on the Brien McMahon High School boys Varsity Lacrosse team, who was left paralyzed from the waist down following a serious vehicle crash Monday.

As of 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, the page had generated more than $25,400 toward a goal of $30,000 to assist Guarente and his family with medical expenses.

"Due to rain, Ty lost control causing his car to flip several times. Ty suffered several different injuries including 3 broken ribs, a lacerated spleen and a broken thoracic spine which is causing him to have no feeling from the waist down for now," wrote Ryan Scott, a friend of Guarente who set up the GoFundMe page. "These injuries will require months of recovery and rehabilitation. I am starting this GoFundMe to assist his family with medical bills as well as the renovations that will need to be made to the house while we get the big guy back on his feet."
