Fairfield Police Catch Norwalk Thieves on I-95


After Norwalk police received reports of an alleged larceny that occurred at Home Depot, they notified surrounding departments to be on the lookout for the Ford Explorer that the suspects fled in, according to an arrest report.  

A Dewalt toolbox was reportedly stolen from the Home Depot located at 600 Connecticut Avenue, police said.  

Fairfield police notified Norwalk police that an officer had stopped the Ford Explorer on Interstate 95. The officer said that the tool box was in plain view in the back seat of the suspect’s car. The Fairfield officer transported the two suspects back to Notwalk Police Department.  

Norwalk police charged the alleged driver, Luis Ortiz, 59, of Bridgeport, with two counts of sixth degree larceny. Police also charged the alleged thief, Matthew Bevans, 31, of Shelton, with sixth-degree larceny.  

Both men were issued $2,500 bonds. They are due in court May 2.
