Iconic New Haven-Based Pizza Place To Open At SoNo Collection
It's the Elm City institution's first location outside of New Haven.
NORWALK, CT — Sally's Apizza, an iconic New Haven pizza place since 1938, will open a new location inside the new SoNo Collection mall. It's the pizzeria's first restaurant outside of The Elm City. While the mall is set to open on Friday, Sally's does not appear to be quite ready, as it is still listed on the mall's website as "Coming Soon." An exact opening date was not immediately available.
Founded in the late 1930s by Salvatore Consiglio, Sally's became known over the years for its "thin crust pizza still baked in the same coal-fired oven that has been in use for over 80 years."
The Consiglio family sold the Wooster Street business in late 2017 to Stamford-based Lineage Hospitality, which said at the time that it had plans to expand the business nationally.

And while Norwalk might not boast famous pizza restaurants like Sally's or Frank Pepe's, the city is home to at least two dozen pizza places, so Norwalkers certainly know their way around a good pie.
"All people should be able to enjoy this truly unique and craveable pizza," Lineage Hospitality spokesperson Aaron Allen said in a statement announcing the acquisition. "That's why Lineage is committed to working with the Consiglios to preserve its rich heritage and build it into a leading national pizza brand."

Besides The SoNo Collection, other locations it plans to take its "authentic Neopolitan pizza baking method" have not yet been announced.
Recently, the restaurant's New Haven location began serving lunch and dinner seven days a week, writes WFSB-TV. For years, the popular eatery was closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
