Liquor Sticker Campaign with Norwalk Alcohol Retailers!
The Norwalk Partnership Unveils Liquor Stickers to Raise Awareness Around Underage Drinking in Norwalk

Norwalk, CT- The Norwalk Partnership, the city’s local substance misuse prevention coalition, is pleased to announce a new campaign for preventing underage drinking in Norwalk youth.
The aptly named “Liquor Sticker” campaign aims to raise awareness that Norwalk youth drink more than average CT teens and that parents can take steps to prevent access to alcohol at home.
Liquor Stickers will be available for free next to the cash register at participating alcohol retailers throughout Norwalk. Liquor Stickers are designed to prevent children and teens from accessing their parents’ wine or liquor unnoticed. To “lock” your liquor, simply place a sticker across the top of an unfinished bottle of wine or liquor and write the date you applied it. Anyone who wants to access your liquor will have to break the seal.
If you spot the stickers at your local package store, please use them and share with your friends and family!
We gladly recognize the following retailers for participating in this campaign to keep our youth safe: Al’s Warehouse, Banner Wines, BevMax, Harborview Wines, Ninety-9 Bottles, Old Post Spirit Shops, The Wine Basket, and Woodward Liquor.
Did You Know?
In Norwalk’s 2018 youth survey, 40% of high school juniors reported drinking in the past month compared with 30% statewide. Similarly, 26% of Norwalk freshmen reported drinking compared with 15% statewide. In focus groups conducted this fall, local teens reported that most drinking takes place at homes (their own or a friend’s).
With youth spending so much time at home during COVID and feeling isolated, depressed or anxious, they are more likely to experiment with alcohol. The younger a child is when they first experiment with substance use, the more likely they are to experience cognitive and behavioral effects, including addiction.
Parents should be aware that the state’s “Social Host Law” holds them responsible if someone under the age of 21 drinks at their place. Teens age 18 and up can also be held responsible. Penalties include a $2000 fine and up to a year in prison.
