Man, 27, Charged in Using Credit Cards He Stole from Cars

Police say he stole credit cards from vehicles overnight, then used them to pay for purchases.

Daniel Lewis, 27, of Woodchuck Lane was arrested at his home on Tuesday, April 14 for stealing credit cards from a number of cars in Westport and using them to make purchases, Westport police said, according to reports in the Norwalk Hour and elsewhere.

Police investigating a string of overnight thefts from vehicles in Westport last January linked them to Lewis, who they said illegally used credit cards stolen in the crimes, according to the Westport News. Westport and Norwalk police went to his home Tuesday night and arrested him.

He was charged with credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card, first-degree identity theft, third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit credit card theft, four counts of conspiracy to commit illegal use of a credit card, conspiracty to commit identity theft, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

His bond was initially set at $35,000, which he posted. He is scheduled to appear April 23 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
