Man Dies After Exiting Moving Train Near Norwalk, Wesport: UPDATE

MTA​ police are investigating a report that a man, 45, died after exiting a Metro-North train traveling between Westport and East Norwalk.

NORWALK, CT — Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are investigating a report that a 45-year-old man died after exiting a westbound Metro-North train as it was traveling between Westport and East Norwalk on Thursday.

Aaron Donovan, deputy communications director of the MTA, said in a news release the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m.

The train was carrying 150 passengers at the time and was scheduled to depart from New Haven at 10:38 a.m. and arrive at Grand Central Terminal in New York City at 12:50 p.m., Donovan said. The trains passengers were later transferred to another train.

Metro-North service is suspended between South Norwalk and Southport, Donovan said.

Around 12:30 p.m., the Metro-North Railroad's official Twitter page announced the New Haven line's trains would not be stopping at Green's Farms, Westport and East Norwalk stations due to police activity near East Norwalk.

The railroad later announced on Twitter train service would resume on the New Haven Line at the three stations beginning with the 1:18 p.m. train departing New Haven and the 1:03 p.m. train departing Grand Central.

According to Norwalk Police Sgt. Sofia Gulino, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority initially believed an incident had occurred near East Norwalk and requested assistance from Norwalk police.

"We responded and found this not to be the case," Gulino said in an email. "As such, the proper authorities are investigating."

Westport Police Lt. David Wolf confirmed an incident was being investigated in town by MTA police and Westport police were providing assistance. Wolf did not specify what the incident was but emphasized there are no public safety issues.
