Netflix Thriller Begins Filming In Norwalk

"The Good Nurse," a Netflix movie starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, has begun filming scenes in various areas of Norwalk.

NORWALK, CT — "The Good Nurse," a new Netflix thriller starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain that recently filmed scenes in Stamford, began shooting in Norwalk this week and will continue filming in various areas of the city through early June.

Sabrina Church, the city's director of business development and tourism, said the production started filming Monday at Van Dyk Recycling Solutions, which is located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The production will continue shooting in Norwalk through June 4, and filming will take place in other areas of the city, including the Mechanic Street Lot near Wall Street and Richard C. Briggs High School on Main Avenue, Church said.

"The way that the relationship works is that the state film office directs them to my office," Church said, "and then my office has a call with the film scout that lets me know what the film is about and what requirements they have for space."

According to Church, a production may require a specific type of space, such as a a commercial or office building. The crew may also need a structure of a certain age or something more specific like brick walls.

"After that, I connect them with the property owners of the spaces to arrange times to scout the locations," Church said. "From there, we aid the production company through the film permit process and then they are pretty much on their way."

Bob Virgulak, a realtor for Sotheby's International Realty in Darien, said he was contacted by the production's regional scouting department.

According to Virgulak, the department was initially looking for more filming locations in Stamford, however he felt Norwalk, and specifically the Wall Street area, would be a much better fit based on what they were looking for.

"I met with the art department...the producers and the directors on seven different occasions," Virgulak said, "and they signed the deal."

Last month, "The Good Nurse" team shot scenes around Morgan Street in Stamford before moving to other areas of the city.

According to Deadline, "The Good Nurse" is based on the true story of the pursuit and capture of prolific serial killer and nurse Charlie Cullen. Redmayne will take on the Cullen role and Chastain will play a nurse who worked alongside the killer and helped police capture him.

Tobias Lindholm is directing the project, which is based on a book by Charles Graeber, according to the Internet Movie Database. Krysty Wilson-Cairns wrote the screenplay.

Redmayne recently starred in the Netflix film "The Trial of the Chicago 7," which was nominated this year for an Academy Award for Best Picture. He also had roles in the "Fantastic Beasts" film series, "Les Miserables" and "The Theory of Everything."

Chastain has starred in films such as "Zero Dark Thirty," "Molly's Game," "Interstellar" and "The Help." Nnamdi Asomugha is also part of the cast.
