NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Common Council member Kadeem Roberts was arrested over the weekend on assault and related charges following what Norwalk police are referring to as a domestic disturbance.

Roberts, a 29-year-old Democrat who represents District A, was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and interfering with a 911 call in connection with the incident, which police said occurred on Fair Street.

"The victim told officers after a night of drinking the victim got a ride from Roberts, and they began arguing in Roberts' vehicle," said Lt. Jared Zwickler in an email. "The vehicle stopped at their destination where the argument continued. Roberts threw the victims belongings [out of the car] on the ground, 'mushed' the victims face with an open hand, poked the victim in the eye, and pulled the victim's hair."

Zwickler said the victim, a woman, "had injuries consistent with these claims but denied medical attention." Roberts and the victim "are known to each other."

When the victim tried to call police, Roberts took the phone away from her, and officers saw her items on the ground when they arrived, Zwickler added.

Patch reached out Roberts, a Hudson Street resident, but he declined to comment. Instead, he referred questions to his attorney, Darnell Crosland, who issued a statement late Monday morning.

Roberts was released after posting bond on bail of $2,500, and he was scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Monday.
