Norwalk Coronavirus Cases Have Exceeded 4,200, Mayor Says
Three Norwalk schools moved to all remote learning this week due to the virus.
NORWALK, CT — The number of coronavirus cases in Norwalk since the pandemic began reached 4,223 on Monday after another 57 new cases were reported, Mayor Harry Rilling announced.
No new deaths were reported, but the city remains under red alert for the virus as families gear up for Thanksgiving.
Over the past week, Norwalk has reported nearly 400 new cases of the coronavirus, and the state is seeing a surge in cases, too. As a result, Rilling is urging families to stay at home this week and avoid travel if possible.

"The week of Thanksgiving is usually a time when students return home from college, family and friends gather at homes or local restaurants, and loved ones who haven’t seen each other recently make time for one another," Rilling said. "Given the rates of COVID-19 in our community, region, and around the country, I encourage all of us to limit these types of routine behaviors this year."
The rise in coronavirus cases in Norwalk led to Nathan Hale Middle School, Brien McMahon High School and the Center for Global Studies to all switch to remote learning this week. Positive coronavirus cases have been reported at the schools, which has led to quarantines that has resulted in not enough teachers and staffers at the schools to operate.

Hybrid learning schedules will return to the schools on Monday.
Rilling said that while some may think they can avoid the coronavirus this Thanksgiving, he hopes they won't try to risk it.
"I know the temptation will be there, and we all trust our close friends and family, but now is not the time to relax our guard," Rilling said. "It is critically important we slow the spread of this virus. We will have increased enforcement this week and will have zero-tolerance for those who are not adhering to public health guidelines."
Free drive-thru coronavirus testing continues in Norwalk this week, except on Thursday due to the holiday. Visit norwalkct.org/2312/COVID-19-Testing for scheduling and more information.
