Norwalk Easter Delivery Co Benefits Hopalong Hollow Rabbit Rescue

NORWALK, CT—A local mother-daughter team has created a new business that's geared towards helping children and families celebrate the holidays safely—including birthdays and other special occasions—while still remaining socially distant—Salutations Custom Greetings.

The idea was born out of co-owner Wendy Mitchell's idea to bring her fresh, organic vegetable surplus to family and friends in the form of "Veggiegrams." Her 20-year-old daughter Ruby, co-owner, helped with planting, assembling and delivering gift packages. Each basket included organically grown vegetables, sweet treats, and a personalized poem. Over the winter holidays, Mitchell created and delivered more than 300 hundred Advent bags—complete with toys, treats, and riddles—for her local church which was closed down during the pandemic. Each child was excited to receive one gift bag for each day during the month of December. A riddle held a clue that helped the child guess what was inside the bag.

When winter turned to spring, Mitchell's focus turned to making customized cards and gift baskets for her family who, sadly, she could not visit due to Covid. She lifted people's spirits during quarantine by delivering packages to her friends and neighbors. These unique pick-me-ups were designed to brighten the day of so many who were isolated at home and needed some cheer. This past month, she spearheaded a highly successful "You've Been SHAMROCKED!" fundraiser at a nonprofit where she volunteers and soon after, she decided to launch her own business.

Salutations Custom Greetings is super EGGcited to bring their very FIRST lawn sign/gift basket offering to the Wilton community. "You've Been EGGED!" is an Easter lawn sign package that brings the holiday spirit from your hearts to your loved ones' homes. A portion of all proceeds from the Easter Bunny add-on will be donated to Hopalong Hollow Rabbit Rescue in Norwalk, Conn. Hopalong Hollow was established in 2004 as "a tiny rescue with only 8 rabbits," according to their website. The founder, Linda Thibault, saw a need and wanted to help. The charity now houses more than 100 rabbits and has 30+ volunteers. The Hollow makes a difference in the Norwalk community and beyond by educating the general public and new adoptive families.

"For all of the businesses I've owned over the years, we have always donated to local nonprofits in order to give back to the community. Hopalong Hollow does wonderful things at their rescue and this is a small way we can help get the word out and help with funding," Mitchell stated.

Along with a team of dedicated volunteers, Mitchell, a 6-year breast cancer survivor, has raised thousands of dollars over the years for other local charities including Ann's Place for Cancer, Dylan's Wings of Change, Sandy Hook Promise, Newtown Strong Therapy Dogs, the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center, and more.

This Easter, they chose the Norwalk nonprofit Hopalong Hollow Rabbit Rescue to go along with their Easter theme and her daughter's love of bunnies.

"I've always wanted a bunny," said Ruby, "but our rescue dog wouldn't be very good with because she's super jealous! So this is the next best thing to help out a great, local organization that takes care of them."
