Norwalk High School Football Coach Resigns: Report
Sean Ireland held the position for eight seasons.
NORWALK, CT — Sean Ireland, Norwalk High School's head football coach for eight seasons, has stepped down from the position to spend more time with his family, writes GametimeCT. This season, the Bears went 5-5.
During his tenure, Ireland, a 1996 graduate of Norwalk High School who also played for the team, went 41-39, and was selected as Connecticut Coach of the Year in 2011 by MSG Varsity. That season, Ireland guided the team into the Class LL playoffs, his only trip to the post-season.
The school's athletic director Doug Marchetti called the resignation a "huge loss." Ireland was part of the program since 1998, taking over head coaching duties from Peter Tucci in 2011.
