Norwalk Declares 'Snow Emergency' For Tuesday's Major Storm

The Norwalk Fire Department is asking residents to "adopt a hydrant" by clearing it of snow, if possible.

NORWALK, CT — Mayor Harry Rilling issued a Snow Emergency for the City of Norwalk, which took effect at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 13, in anticipation of Tuesday's major snow storm.

Below is Rilling's announcement:

"The Fire Department is asking residents to ‘adopt a hydrant.’ If possible, please clear hydrants closest to your property to help firefighters get quick access during fires. Residents and businesses are reminded to shovel sidewalks as required by City code. Please move your vehicles off the streets that are marked as snow emergency route. Garbage and recycling pick up will be pushed back a day. Norwalk Public Schools and City buildings will be closed tomorrow. Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this winter storm."
