Norwalk Transit District To Distribute Coronavirus Masks Tuesday

The free masks will be distributed at the Norwalk Transit Hub on Burnell Boulevard Tuesday morning and afternoon.

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Transit District on Tuesday will distribute free coronavirus (COVID-19) masks as part of a statewide initiative to provide masks to bus riders throughout Connecticut, announced Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling.

Masks will be given out from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Norwalk Transit Hub at 10 Burnell Boulevard. For more information visit norwalktransit.com.

"Face coverings remain a powerful tool in combatting the spread of COVID-19," Rilling said. "Thank you to the Norwalk Transit District for distributing masks to your passengers and for your efforts in protecting the community."

The spread of the coronavirus has slowed in Norwalk and other Connecticut communities in recent weeks, but the state has issued travel advisories and other guidance to continue to keep the infection rates low.

Since Sunday, there are no new confirmed coronavirus cases in Norwalk, and no new reported coronavirus-related deaths, according to Rilling.

This is from Rilling's Monday announcement:

  • The Norwalk Public Library Pop Up Truck continues to visit food sites and community centers. Stop by and see them on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12 PM to 2:30 PM. Information on dates and locations can be found on Facebook (@norwalkpubliclibrary).
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated their guidance last week for when a person can be around others after having COVID-19. A test-based strategy is no longer recommended to determine when to end home isolation, except in certain circumstances. A summary of the accumulating evidence supporting the symptom-based strategy can be found here.

"The updated guidance from the CDC is important for employers to utilize when determining when employees can return to work, and it’s also important for residents who have recovered from COVID-19 and want to see their family members," Rilling said. "There are reports of individuals testing positive for much longer than they are infectious, some for even months."
