Popular Bar Suddenly Closes After 12 Years In Norwalk: Report

NORWALK, CT – Cask Republic, the former location of The Ginger Man at 99 Washington Street, has suddenly shut down after 12 years in South Norwalk. Yelp has also listed the location as closed.

"It is with great sadness that after 12 years we have closed our doors," a sign posted on the bar's door reads. "Many of you have become our close friends over the years and we will miss you."

A well-received piece of Sono's roster of restaurants and bars, Cask Republic offered a large selection of menu items and a wide variety of beers on tap, which could be found gracing the long wall behind the bar. It also featured a convenient outdoor patio area, perfect for summer and fall nights with a large crowd.

"Thank you to all of you who have supported us over the years as The Ginger Man & Cask Republic," the sign reads. "It was a great ride but unfortunately is has come to an end."

While the bar's vibe is inviting and fun, Cask Republic also offers guests "serious chef-crafted American fare" as well as "creative interpretations of globally inspired dishes," according to their website.

"Our extensive beverage program offers a carefully curated selection of American and international beers, unique wine selections and a hand crafted cocktail menu utilizing house made ingredients," the website reads.

Cask Republic currently has locations in both Stamford (1919 Summer Street) and New Haven (179 Crown Street). Both are operated by Skal Restaurant Group, as was the Norwalk location.

The bar's Norwalk location received praise as recently as September on Yelp.

"It's always a good time at Cask Republic," Yelp reviewer Harry L. wrote on Sept. 24. "Their Pesto Mac and Cheese is one of the best Mac and Cheese I ever had. Their beer selection is the best in Sono and if you like whiskey, this is one of the best spots to go to."
