The Real Meaning of Christmas

St Matthew Knights honor Pastor by Serving Others

It was a tough Christmas week at St Matthew Parish due to loss of longtime Pastor and KofC Council 14360 Chaplain Msgr. Walter Orlowski. Msgr. Walter was a guiding force in the parish and council and believed in service to those in need with respect and dignity. Msgr. Walter’s can do attitude is infectious to his Brother Knights.
The St Matthew Knights along with Bishop Fenwick 4th Degree Assembly 100 continue to honor their Pastor/Chaplain and Brother by helping those in need during Christmas. First, the council sponsored and delivered a Christmas Eve meals to our male and female veterans at Homes to Brave in Bridgeport. Homes for the Brave provides housing and services necessary to help homeless individuals return to a productive and meaningful life. In addition, Christmas cards were given to each veteran “I want to thank the Brother Knights from Norwalk for their continued support of our veterans,” said Homes for the Brave CEO Vince Santilli. In addition, the council and assembly is assisting a family in need through the Family & Children's Agency Giving Fund Program. Aliases are used to protect their privacy . Ethan is a toddler growing up in foster care. He has incredibly challenging medical needs due to injuries he sustained while in the care of his biological parents. His foster mother is constantly taking him to doctor’s appointments or various therapies to help him achieve success in his development. His foster mother is hoping to adopt Ethan one day. Due to Ethan’s medical challenges, he is in a wheelchair and his foster mother will need to make renovations to her home to accommodate this as he gets older. Our gift will help support his foster mother with bathroom renovations to make it handicap accessible for Ethan’s needs. “Helping those in need during and letting people know that they are loved and not forgotten is the true Christmas spirit, “ said Assembly 100 Faithful Navigator George Ribellino. “Like the song says; The real meaning of Christmas is the giving of love everyday” Lastly, the Council and Assembly sent food to the frontlines like they have been doing since the start of the pandemic. To show thanks and appreciation pizza was sent for lunch on Christmas Eve to Notre Dame Health and Rehab Center and the Norwalk Police Department.
Council 14360 Grand Knight Anthony Armentano said, “In recalling many of the stories about Msgr. Walter, every one of those recollections comes back to “What can we do to help?” His spiritual leadership has certainly inspired us in all that we do. We must keep his legacy going.”
