Stop & Shop and Knorr Donate 23,000 Pounds of Food in Norwalk

Stop & Shop and Knorr Donate 23,000 Pounds of Food to Support Fairfield County Residents in Need

To help provide more nutritious options to the increased number of Fairfield Country residents facing food insecurity as a result of COVID-19, Knorr and Stop & Shop teamed up with the Connecticut Food Bank/Foodshare to provide much needed food to those in need, filling nearly 1000 vehicles with produce, non-perishables and other essentials at a drive through food bank distribution today at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Norwalk, Connecticut. Stop & Shop donated 8,000 pounds of produce to the Connecticut Food Bank/Foodshare, and Unilever donated 15,000 units of Knorr’s Sides.

This donation event was in conjunction with Stop & Shop’s Food for Friends campaign, sponsored by Knorr’s. Throughout the month of May, Stop & Shop customers can donate food or funds in-store, all of which support the Connecticut Food Bank/Foodshare, as well as local food pantries providing food and services to Connecticut residents facing food insecurity. Neighbors in need who visited the drive-thru distribution were also treated with a special visit from Giants Football alum, Mark Herzlich. Herzlich, a Norwalk local, assisted in distributing produce from Stop & Shop and Knorr’s Sides to some lucky attendees.

Food Bank volunteers and Stop & Shop and Unilever associates distributed bags filled with essential goods, including Knorr’s Sides and fresh produce for local residents in need. Food insecurity persists across Connecticut and has increased over 29% since the onset of the pandemic according to Connecticut Food Bank/Foodshare, which distributes food to people in need across the state. It is estimated that 1 in 5 children in Connecticut are food insecure. With the pandemic still impacting local families’ ability to purchase groceries over covering their other basic needs such as housing and medical bills, this distribution is helping to provide extra food assistance for our neighbors in need.
