2 Seriously Injured In Oxford Crash

Two men in their 20s were hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash down a ravine in Oxford.

OXFORD, CT — Two men were seriously injured after a crash down a ravine off Great Hill Road near Fairfield Road earlier this week, according to the Waterbury Republican-American.

The Republican-American reports Seymour residents Brian Rickel, 28, who was driving, and Matthew Hames, 25, were both hospitalized with serious injuries after they were extricated from the vehicle that veered off the road and struck a chain link fence and two trees.

Rickel is in the Intensive Care Unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to a GoFundMe that was launched to help with medical expenses.

“We all feel so helpless, especially because we are unable to go and visit him at the hospital,” reads a post on the GoFundMe page. “We are putting together this GoFundMe page to show Brian our love and support. Our goal is to assist Brian with the massive burden of medical expenses as well as household, living expenses while he is recovering.”

Hames was moved out of the ICU at Waterbury Hospital on April 22, according to a GoFundMe that was launched to help with his medical expenses.

“During this pandemic it is even harder than ever to know he is suffering without any loved ones by his side. His journey is going to be a long and painful recovery,” reads a post on the GoFundMe page. “This GoFundMe is to ensure that he will not have to worry about living expenses and bills while he recovers, along with the medical expenses that are to follow.”
