Celebration for Oxford Athletics on Saturday

The free and public event will be held at Oxford High.

Clarification: Only three teams, plus the track athletes that won, will be honored.

Town officials will honor three Oxford High School teams that won state titles this year, plus track athletes who have performed well in state and regional tournaments, on Saturday.

The Board of Selectmen will honor the athletes at noon at the new athletic field at the high school. The picnic and program will begin at noon following the blue/white Oxford High football inter-team spring game at 10 a.m.

The teams that will be honored include: baseball, softball, boys' volleyball, plus Taylor Drayton and Savada Robinson for track and field and the boys' 4X800 team of Brandon Au, Chris Faber, Ryan Flach and Cameron Swift.

“This is a chance for the whole town to turn out and congratulate our kids," First Selectman George Temple said. "They have firmly placed the town of Oxford on the front of the athletic landscape."

The event is free and open to the public. T-shirts, hot dogs, coffee and water will be sold during the event, which will include speeches from local and state dignitaries, as well as a performance by the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum & Bugle Corps.
