Dedication ceremony and reception planned by Oxford Historical Society

Reception and Dedication at Homestead Museum October 2. Visit the museum to admire a replica of a friendship quilt circa 1850

The Oxford Historical Society will dedicate the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead Museum’s new sign on Sunday, October 2, at 2 p.m. The Twitchell-Rowland Homestead Museum is located at 60 Towner Lane, off Route 67 in Oxford.

The sign was erected in memory of Myrtle Rowland, a benefactor and ardent supporter of the Society and the museum who died in 2015. Mrs. Rowland and her husband, Fred, donated the land on which the 1755 saltbox stands.

John Konicki designed the sign. It was built by Mr. Konicki, Ron Stebar, and Douglas Dziewulski. Robbie Robinson assisted with the installation.

Indoors, a replica of a circa 1850 Oxford friendship quilt, originally made for Harriet Chatfield when she married and moved to New Haven will be on display. Mrs. Rowland was a member of the Homestead Quilters who sewed the quilt, and many of the stitches in the coverlet are hers.

Friends and family of Myrtle Rowland are cordially invited to attend the brief dedication ceremony and to visit the museum for a reception following the event.
