The Chairwoman of the Oxford Democratic Town Committee has written a letter to the editor saying that the town has more important priorities at this time than spending money on a playscape.
The Oxford Board of Finance has agreed to First Selectman George Temple's request that $138,000 be used to fund a new playscape on Great Oak Road near the middle school and Quaker Farms School. He says that money will be offset by a settlement the town is receiving from a lawsuit over an oil spill by an outside company at Quaker Farms School.
Ann Krane, the Democratic Town Committee chair, takes issue with the way the project is being funded and that others are possibly putting put on hold to fund this project. In her letter, she says:
"The Oxford Democratic Town Committee is all in favor of building a playscape. It’s a much-needed amenity for the town’s families. But we believe that the town has more important priorities at this time."Â
