New This Year: Oxford Schools Open Doors to Students on Veterans Day
The Board of Ed. changed its policy on Vets Day last school year.

For the first time in several years – perhaps ever – Oxford public schools will be in session today, Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
The Board of Education decided last school year, after much debate and contemplation, to hold class on Veterans Day so that children could have the opportunity to discuss the sacrifices of veterans in classrooms.
The Department of Veterans Affairs says that because there is no legal requirement that schools close on Veterans Day, individual states or school districts are free to establish their own policies on school closings.

“Most schools that do not close for Veterans Day schedule assemblies or other activities to honor America's veterans on Veterans Day and throughout the week that includes Veterans Day,” the department states on its website.
