Opening Day Looms for Oxford High School Teams

OXFORD, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and many preseason scrimmages have been played, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Oxford High School. For a complete season schedule of Wolverine varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• boys soccer - Thursday, 9/6, vs. Derby, 3:45 p.m.
• girls volleyball - Thursday, 9/6, at Woodland, 5 p.m.
• girls soccer - Friday, 9/7, vs. Bunnell, 4 p.m.
• football - Saturday, 9/8, at Wilby, 10 a.m.
• cross country - Tuesday, 9/11, vs. St. Paul, Seymour and Kennedy, 4 p.m.
• girls swimming - Friday, 9/14, vs. St. Paul, 4 p.m.
