Oxford Fire Department Assists With Southbury House Fire

The fire was likely caused by a lightning strike.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Two dogs and a cat died during a house fire at 70 Forest Road Friday afternoon, the Republican-American reports. It's believed a lightning strike caused the blaze.

Initially, four animals were rescued by firefighters from the home but three succumbed to smoke inhalation, while a fourth pet is struggling to stay alive, the Rep-Am reports.

Middlebury, Oxford and Woodbury fire departments all provided mutual aid, the Rep-Am reports.
