Oxford Football Coach Says He Should be Disciplined But Not Fired: Report

The coach took the stand during a hearing held this week.

OXFORD, CT — Oxford High School football coach Joseph Stochmal, who is also a teacher, believes he should be disciplined but shouldn't lose his job, the Republican-American reports.

The coach was charged with breach of peace in December after he went to central officers and was upset that he believed his brother was forced to resign a job in the district. School officials have said Stochmal cursed at them and was out of control, but in testimony this week the coach denied that charge, the Rep-Am reports.

But Stochmal admitted he did yell at the schools superintendent and he apologized for being "disrespectful."

A hearing officer has until July 10 to rule on Stochmal's fate, the Rep-Am reports. Several people have testified that the coach cares about his players and First Selectman George R. Temple previously testified in support of Stochmal.
