Oxford resident David Heim has posted a letter to the editor of Oxford Patch explaining why he attempted to stop a vote on whether to fund the proposed playscape at $138,000 during a town meeting Tuesday night.
Heim said the town should not have voted if it did not have the money in hand and that the town charter does not allow for money to be allocated in this way. (The money is coming from a settlement the town is expecting to receive from an ongoing feud with an environmental company over an oil spill at Quaker Farms School.)Â Â
Heim's letter states: "The issue is not whether to build a playscape. The town clearly wants and needs it. The issue is how to pay for the playscape in a proper way. That's not what happened at the town meeting. When you do something good but in the wrong way, it's still wrong."
