Get a Head Start on Holiday Shopping at The Hickories

The Hickories Farm in Ridgefield is hosting farm tours Thanksgiving weekend and a holiday Sheep Stroll next weekend.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Join the staff at The Hickories farm in Ridgefield and get a jump start on your holiday shopping by supporting a local family-owned business. Walk the farm Thanksgiving weekend with a farmer and talk about sustainable and organic farm design as well as explore the vegetable, fruit, and livestock production here at The Hickories. This event is free to CSA members and non-members are $10. Click here to register.

The Hickories is also hosting a favorite holiday farm tradition on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. as they herd their sheep to their warm winter barn from their autumn pastures. The group will gather on Lounsbury Road to light the flock’s way with lanterns and listen to the holidays bells ring as the sheep come home to their manger.

Children and adults can enjoy making a wool craft with yarn from The Hickories sheep. Items are limited so be sure to come early and stock up on a bounty of local flavors and warm woolens. The Hickories Sheep Stroll is $5 per person and spots can be reserved at www.thehickories.org/sheepstroll. After the stroll guests can shop at the farm store and purchase homemade marinara, salsa, fruit jams, and other farm treats. Kids and adults will enjoy a wooly craft project with yarn and fleeces from their sheep.

Eggz Kitchen and Redding Roasters will be selling delicious food and drinks to help guests stay warm.The Holiday Farm Store remains open for winter hours Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for your holiday shopping.

The Hickories' online store is open 24 hours a day at www.thehickories.org. In addition to their assortment of The Hickories organic winter produce, pastured meat, and preserves, custom farm-to-table gift baskets can be ordered in advance and make great gifts for anyone on your list.
