McMahon, Murphy Sweep the Ridgefield Primaries

The two will go head-to-head for the 2012 Senate seat.

U.S. Senate candidates Linda McMahon (R) and Chris Murphy (D) won their primaries by a large margin, both easily beating their party opponents in Ridgefield’s 2012 Senate primary vote.

Senate hopeful Linda McMahon won the majority of registered Ridgefield Republican voters over Chris Shays, with 824 votes for McMahon and 506 votes for Shays.

Democratic incumbent Chris Murphy beat former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz in a landslide with 569 votes for Murphy versus 138 votes for Bysiewicz.

Whether or not the two will actually contend in November depends on the statewide results, which according to The Associated Press are reflective of local results. Patch will update readers soon as the official results are available.
