New Gas Station Proposal Withdrawn

Stop & Shop rescinds its plans for a gas station on Danbury Road, the Ridgefield Press reports.

Before Ridgefield’s Planning & Zoning Board could officially veto the proposed plan for a new gas station at 65 Danbury Road, Stop & Shop withdrew its application via a letter to the board this past Monday, the Ridgefield Press reports.

Stop & Shop probably withdrew the proposal because it would likely not pass through P&Z. During many hours worth of town meetings and two public forums, Stop & Shop received much criticism but no clear support for the new gas station. Public support was lacking as well, with some citizens calling the plan a terrible idea with a location that “‘stinks.’”

Perhaps the dissension with the most weight came from the Ridgefield Police Commission in the form of a letter which stated that a gas station at the proposed site would cause traffic congestion and traffic safety problems.

However, some commenters on Ridgefield Patch welcomed the proposal, believing that Stop & Shop reward points would help them save money at the pump. Other voices of support came from those who thought P&Z had made an unfair decision by allowing new business opportunities on the opposite side of the street.
