Obituary: David Friece Daubenspeck, 87, Of Ridgefield
His retirement years were devoted to traveling, gardening, and to the compilation of a 750+ years of the Daubenspeck family history.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — David Friece Daubenspeck of The Atria, 55 Old Quarry Road, Ridgefield, died in his 87th year on May 26, 2021. For 61 years he was the husband of Anita Tanner Daubenspeck, retired Director of the Ridgefield Library.
Mr. Daubenspeck was born December 18, 1933, in Huntingdon, PA, the son of the late George Francis and Marjorie Weaver Daubenspeck. He was a 1951 graduate of Huntingdon High School and a 1955 Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA, where he was a member and president of Chi Phi Fraternity.
In 1956 Mr. Daubenspeck entered employment with International Business Machines Corporation and spent twenty-nine years in various marketing and management positions in Philadelphia, New York City, Princeton, NJ, and Westchester County, NY. His IBM career was interrupted by three years' service with the US Navy as a Communications Intelligence officer on Guam, Mariana Islands, and in Washington, DC.
In June 1960 Mr. Daubenspeck and Anita Lucille Tanner were united in marriage in her hometown of Van Wert, OH. After living in the Philadelphia, PA, and Princeton, NJ, areas, they moved to Ridgefield in 1973, residing first in Twin Ridge and later at #2 Main Street. They moved to Newtown in 2004 and back to Ridgefield in 2020.
After retiring from IBM in 1989, Mr. Daubenspeck earned an Associate's Degree as a Legal Assistant from the University of Bridgeport and was employed in the Legal Department of the GTE Corporation's Stamford HQ for nine years until his final retirement in 1998. His retirement years were devoted to traveling with his wife, gardening, and to the compilation of a 750+ years of the Daubenspeck family history, which was published in 2002. His ancestors came to the Pennsylvania Colony in 1736 from Germany.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Daubenspeck is survived by their three children and their spouses: Leslie Daubenspeck Henderson of Glenview, IL, and husband Alastair; George Richard Daubenspeck of Scottsdale, AZ, and companion Judy Johnson; and Timothy Reuben Bane Daubenspeck of Ridgefield, and wife Kacey; and by seven grandchildren: Derek Henderson and wife Nicole of Ridgefield, Douglas Henderson and wife Emma of Manchester, England; David T. Daubenspeck of Scottsdale, AZ, Margaret E. Daubenspeck, of Boston, MA, Tanner, Edward, and Lily Daubenspeck of Ridgefield and by a great-granddaughter Winter Rose Henderson of Ridgefield, a brother, Richard Clayton Daubenspeck, of Dallas, Texas, by an AFS daughter Junko Kobayashi Saltzgaber of Wilkes-Barre, PA and husband Lee, and by three cousins., John and wife Carol Cook of Huntingdon, PA, Debbie Daubenspeck of Satellite Beach Florida, and George Robert Weaver and wife Pat of Lititz, PA.
