Obituary: Murray Bernard Darvick, 94, Of Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Murray Bernard Darvick, 94, of Ridgefield, passed away on March 4, 2021. He was the loving husband of Ellen (Hodas) Darvick.

Murray was born on Nov. 28, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY; son of the late Jack and Mollie (Bogatz) Darvick and the brother of the late Esther (Darvick) Fenster. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and worked as a pharmacist mate during World War II. After attending CCNY and the Gemological Institute of America, he embarked in a career in the wholesale diamond business. Murray first worked as a diamond cutter, then a salesman and finally as a diamond assorter. Additionally he and his wife, Ellen, were proprietors of an antique jewelry business.

A Ridgefield resident since 1999, Murray was an accomplished painter, working primarily with oil paints and in recent years, with water colors. He was a classical music and opera lover, a wine enthusiast and true "foodie" with a stomach of steel. He was member of Congregation Shir Shalom (formerly Temple Shearith Israel) of Ridgefield and a supporter Democratic Town Committee. He was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans and the Appraisers Association of America.

In November, 1952, Murray married Edith Tonkonogy (deceased). In June 1975, he married his wife Ellen. They were married for nearly 46 years. He is survived by his children: Seth Darvick, Susan Mechanic-Meyers, Saari Darvick-Binder (Steve), and Joseph Mechanic (Dara). He is also survived by grandchildren: Samuel Binder (fiancée Samantha Hamroff) and Jesse Binder (fiancée Alison Clarvit), Sarah and Julian Mechanic, Victoria, Olivia, Sophia and Emma Mechanic and Mollie Darvick. He was predeceased by his son, Steven Mechanic, daughter-in-law, Deborah Darvick and a granddaughter, Ivey Meyers.
