Ridgefield Charter Revision Commission Issues Final Report

Proposed changes detailed in 46-page report.

Ridgefield’s Charter Revision Commission has released a copy of their final draft revisions to be sent to the Board of Selectmen for deliberation before going to the voters.

The draft report (download below) includes detailed breakdowns of each proposed change, as well as the timeline for how the Commission arrived at those decisions.

Among the more significant changes are:

  • Board of Selectmen approval of capital spending requests from the Board of Education;
  • Addition of the Architectural Advisory Committee and Commission for the Disabled;
  • Require environmental reviews before the town accepts donations of land;
  • Sets the Town Treasurer as an elected position, rather than appointed;
  • Sets the Tax Collector as appointed instead of elected;


The Commission also withdrew several proposals after public hearings and discussions with town officials, including:

  • Allowing the Board of Selectmen to set a maximum budget number for the Board of Finance;
  • Including “Electronic Media” in the section on newspapers;
