Ridgefield Graffiti Artist Commissioned to Mark Local Business Milestone

Local business gets local artist to tag their walls.

JoyRide Ridgefield, Ridgefield’s only dedicated indoor cycling studio, recently commissioned local graffiti artist Mike Cerullo to create a “Wall of Joy” mural in honor of its riders who have achieved the 100-class milestone.

JoyRide, which opened in January 2014, is developing a loyal following and expects its first wave of riders to achieve this milestone in July. Riders who achieve their 100th class will get to have their signed photo pinned to the Wall of Joy.

JoyRide Ridgefield’s studio already features three bespoke graffiti murals by Brooklyn artist Eric Inkala. This time JoyRide wanted to find a local artist to create the mural celebrating the achievements of its local riders.

“Mike Cerullo is incredibly talented,” said JoyRide co-owner Corey Londoner. “We have known about his work for awhile, and had the opportunity to meet him last February during the opening of the Graphique show at Ridgefield’s Watershed Gallery. The mural Mike designed adds a cool, colorful and edgy dimension to our studio, and marks an important point in the history of our business as we celebrate our first 100-class riders.”

Cerullo, who grew up in Ridgefield and has lived here his whole life, creates paintings and drawings mostly using spray paint, but also a variety of mixed media. Cerullo attended Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts where he first became influenced by the bold colors and letter forms found in graffiti art. Cerullo is currently focused on bringing graffiti style art into galleries in an effort to further its recognition as an art form. He has recently been featured at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists Gallery and Watershed Gallery in Ridgefield.

“It was exciting to create an original piece for a local business since I’m from Ridgefield,” Cerullo said. “I’m impressed that since they’ve opened, JoyRide Ridgefield has been really focused on partnering with local businesses and charities, and now even a local artist. They are a great addition to the community and it’s nice to be a part of that.”

Cerullo’s work will be featured in the upcoming Art Walk at the Prospector Theater starting Aug. 22 and is also exhibiting as part of a group show at Trailer Box Gallery in Danbury throughout August.
