Ridgefield Halloween 2017: Trick-Or-Treating Safety

Children across town will take to the streets Tuesday in search of tasty treats. Here is how you and your family can be safe.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Children across Ridgefield will hit the streets Tuesday evening for a night of trick-or-treating fun with their friends. Ghouls, ghosts and goblins abound, it is likely most residents will play a role in the festivities.

Ridgefield Police do not have designated trick-or-treating hours, but Capt. Jeff Kreitz provided Patch with some tips for trick-or-treating safely.

  • Be visible- carry a flashlights, glowsticks and attach reflective tape to your costume
  • Trick or treat in groups and with a trusted adult
  • Avoid wearing masks as they can obstruct your view
  • Always cross the street at a crosswalk if one is available. Look both ways prior to crossing and never assume that a motorist sees you. Always walk; never run when crossing a street.
  • Use a sidewalk if one is available. If no sidewalk is available, walk on the far edge of the roadway facing traffic
  • Only trick or treat at well lit homes
  • Instruct your child ever enter the home of a stranger or enter the vehicle of a stranger
  • Instruct your child to bring home the candy so it can be inspected by you (the parent) prior to consumption. Never consume unwrapped treats
  • Report all suspicious activity immediately to the police 911 for emergencies, 203-438-6531 for routine calls.
