Ridgefield Library Will Move Location Until 2013

The Ridgefield Library will close at 5 p.m. Saturday, August 18 and open-two-and-a-half weeks later on September 4 at the old Balducci’s building located at 21 Governor Street.

The temporary location will be the library’s new home during the planned 16-to-18-month construction period in which the original library will which will .

The new library will be eco-friendly and citizens will be able to look forward to longer weekday hours in late 2013.

“For years, people have been asking us to open earlier during the week,” said Library Director in a press release. “Even the most dedicated library users can lose track of which evenings we are open.” 

The Governor Street location and also giving Nolan and staff an opportunity to make Ridgefielders feel entertained and at home until the ‘old library’ becomes the ‘new library.’

“While there will be changes to our services due to the size and nature of our temporary space, we have some very creative plans underway to remain a vital and vibrant part of Ridgefielders’ lives while we are awaiting completion of our beautiful new building,” said Nolan.

The new schedule will make the library available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Monday through Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Contact information for the Ridgefield Library will remain the same during the entire process (see ).

Other things you may want to consider during two weeks of no library:

 

• Reference help is still available! Call, email, or use the “Text-a-Librarian” service to ask a question.

• If you have materials due between August 18 and September 4, don’t worry: No charges or fines will be issued.

• The library’s website will be fully functional, allowing users to use reference databases, ebooks and downloadable audiobooks via OverDrive (requires valid library ID login).

• Summer Reading participants will be able to pick up their prizes up until Labor Day.

• Donations for the book sale will be accepted until August 17 and again at the Governor Street location on Sept. 4.

• ConnectiCard, the state-wide interlibrary borrowing system, can still be used by presenting your library card (the wallet-sized one, not the keychain one) at any other state library.

While the intellectual consumption of reading materials is not vital for daily organ function, the library recommends that you stock up on reading materials for the two-week downtime.
