Sheep Stroll Ushers in Holiday Season at The Hickories
The Hickories farm in Ridgefield hosted their annual sheep stroll last weekend which also marked opening day of their holiday farm shop.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — It's not quite the running of the bulls in Spain but The Hickories farm in Ridgefield did hold a sort of "running of the sheep" last weekend as they herded them to a warm winter barn from their autumn pastures.
A group gathered on Lounsbury Road to light the flock’s way with lanterns and listen to the holidays bells ring to usher in the holiday season. The annual tradition has become so popular for local families that last weekend's sheep stroll sold out. The event was also the opening day for The Hickories farm store which is now open every day 10-5 through New Year's Eve. Vegetables are harvested and replenished Friday through Sunday. The farm stand sells warm woolen mittens, fingerless gloves and wool socks which make great stocking stuffers (and are selling out quickly!).
The Hickories' online store is open 24 hours a day at www.thehickories.org. In addition to their assortment of The Hickories organic winter produce, pastured meat, and preserves, custom farm-to-table gift baskets can be ordered in advance and make great gifts for anyone on your list.
