At the end of the update, AARP announced  that Hampton was receiving its 2013 AARP Legislative Achievement Award. The recognition was for Hampton's leadership in expanding consumer protections for individuals and family caregivers that rely on home and community based supports, according to the AARP.

“We commend you for your outstanding advocacy on behalf of older adults.  Connecticut residents can now rely on new contract protections and strengthened consumer laws for home and community based care,” said AARP’s John Erlingheuser.  “As a result, seniors and their family caregivers will have additional tools to ensure high quality home care and support an individual’s decision to age independently at home.”

“Senior citizens are the heart and soul of our community. I am proud to be a strong voice for them at the State Capitol,” Hampton said.  “I am honored to receive this award. I thank the AARP for this recognition and I look forward to our continued collaborative efforts on behalf of older Americans.”
