Why are you seeking office?

Having lived in town most of my life and having previously served two terms on the Library Board of Directors, I believe I add a broad and informed perspective to the group. Even though the Library is such a successful, high functioning, and popular institution there still exists an opportunity to make incremental improvements that will allow it to serve its constituents even more effectively. At the same time the Library’s mission needs to be constantly re-evaluated in light of the information age and broader town strategies.

What experience do you bring to the table?

I add my financial expertise, my long standing local perspective, and my institutional memory from my prior Library service all of which allow me to contribute immediately.

30+ year resident of Simsbury, father of two boys (12 and 16), former Chairman Simsbury Library Board of Directors, Board of Directors Simsbury Little League, former Treasurer First Church of Christ Simsbury, former Cub Master Simsbury Pack 76, Coach -Simsbury Youth Football, President SHS Rugby Booster Club,

What do you feel is the town's most pressing issue?

Appropriate commercial tax base development balanced with budgetary vigilance.  While inarguably we need to diversify our tax base, at the same time we need to be willing to make tough decisions about what we can and should afford to do as a town.

What do you love most about town?

My wife and I both grew up here and choose to raise our two boys here because we love this town. Since all of our family members are products of the Simsbury public school system it is impossible for me not to start there, but more than that, I believe Simsbury has a wonderful strength of community unique and very evident when you volunteer as I do with many town groups. When you work closely with people from town you cannot help but be amazed not just by their generosity of spirit and time, but the incredible pool of intellect Simsbury has to draw upon. This is evident in most many town institutions including the Library through the work of the Friends of the Library. I credit much of Simsbury’s success to these volunteers who have not only created a rich community but one they constantly strive to improve.

What do you like to do for fun?

While I have many interests, right now I enjoy most things that allow me to spend time with my family. Through coaching sports, volunteering at school or church, or simply heading out to dinner and a movie I appreciate that time together.

How can residents keep up with you?

I am easily found through my email; cmorkan@gmail.com, on Facebook, and most often around town. I would be anxious to hear from people about their opinions of and their ambitions for, the Library.
