Why are you seeking office?
I want to contribute to my town in a way that leaves a lasting mark. I want to help improve the planning process to allow the future growth that we need to be in harmony with the place we love, while growing the Grand List and lowering taxes.
What experience do you bring to the table?
I have been part of the planning process for new developments and urban infill projects as an applicant. I also served on the Architectural Review Committee in Torrington for 10 years and am currently am a member of the Historic District Commission in Simsbury. I have been on both sides of the application process, understand building and development issues and can bring a creative alternative perspective to the process.
What do you feel is the town's most pressing issue?
The most immediate challenge is to influence the decisions that will be made about the future of The Hartford property. It is critical that there is a thoughtful and appropriate solution to the use of that space that fits in with the plan of development that the town has crafted for itself. The greater challenge is to maintain and improve a plan for the future that has us prepared, as a town, for the next unforeseen challenge, the one we are not anticipating. There will be development pressures that will test our will power and commitment to seeing Simsbury grow while maintaining everything we love about living here.
What do you love most about town?
I love that we can live in a place that has maintained its small-town qualities, that has such a wonderful mix of open agricultural spaces and quiet neighborhoods and charming historic homes and yet has so much to offer; access to great recreation, proximity to cultural events and the perfect environment to raise a family.
What do you like to do for fun?
My wife and I love to travel. I am an enthusiastic gardener, both vegetable and landscape. I play tennis and am an avid sports fan. The best days are tailgating with my son at Patriots games and going to Fenway.
